StoneRiver Company joined leaders from the City of Irondale, the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce and project partners on August 25 to celebrate a major milestone for The Current at Grants Mill with a ceremonial groundbreaking.
The event brought together the civic, business and development partners who have helped move the project from planning into active construction and offered attendees an opportunity to see the progress underway across the property.
A Distinctive Residential Community Taking Shape
Set across approximately 48 acres, The Current at Grants Mill is a 330-residence Class-A multifamily community being developed as a distinctive residential neighborhood.
The community will combine garden-style apartments with townhomes, carriage houses and cottage-style homes, offering one-, two- and three-bedroom residences along with a broad collection of indoor and outdoor amenities designed to support a variety of lifestyles and living preferences.
“The variety of housing types at The Current at Grants Mill gives us an opportunity to create something that feels more like a complete neighborhood than a traditional apartment community,” said Dan Fuchs, Executive Vice President of Development at StoneRiver Company. “From the residences to the amenity spaces, the community has been thoughtfully planned around how people want to live today while creating an experience we believe will remain relevant for years to come.”
Celebrating the Partnerships Behind the Project
StoneRiver President and Chief Investment Officer Joseph Welden and Fuchs were joined as speakers by Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. and Greater Irondale Chamber President Pastor Mike McClure.
For StoneRiver, the groundbreaking was also an opportunity to recognize the partnerships that have helped move the project forward.
“Today is really about the people and partnerships that make a project like this possible,” Welden said. “From the Mayor, City Council of Irondale, and the Chamber to our construction and development teams, there has been a shared commitment to creating something meaningful here. We appreciate the collaboration that has helped bring The Current at Grants Mill to this point and look forward to what comes next.”
Since site work began earlier this year, construction activity has continued to advance across the property. The ceremonial groundbreaking gave attendees a firsthand look at that progress while recognizing the many public- and private-sector partners involved in bringing the development forward.
Mayor Stewart highlighted the project’s significance for Irondale, noting that investments of this scale reflect confidence in the community and contribute to its continued evolution. Pastor McClure also emphasized the value of partnerships between local leadership and private investment in strengthening Irondale’s business community and creating long-term opportunity.
